Profile - Duke Shelley
Tucker High School (GA) corner back Duke Shelley is taking his time with the recruiting process. Shelly plans to name a top five at the end of the month and is in no rush to set a decision date.
Shelly had just returned from a visit to Kansas State when we talked to him. Duke got to see the campus and the facilities. He also spent the night with one of the Kansas State players. “It was a good visit despite the fact that there is not much to do unless you stay on campus.”
Georgia Tech is another school that has been staying in touch with Shelly. "Coach (Joe) Speed and I talk a lot about Georgia Tech.” Tech is one of the schools that Duke is giving a close look. Shelly likes that Coach Speed would also be his position coach besides being his recruiting coach.
Duke and Coach Speed have formed a close relationship. “When we talk about football, you can tell he knows what he is doing.” Shelly likes hearing that there is a chance for early playing time if he plays up to his potential. “I always enjoy my time at Georgia Tech. It is in Atlanta and I love the school and the city."
Shelly hasn’t named a list of favorites but he feels that Tech is up there. "I will have my list by the end of this month.” Duke wants to only have to think about those schools once his season starts.
Georgia Tech is one of the schools that Duke feels is recruiting him the hardest. Kansas State, South Florida, and most recently Mississippi State, are the others. Tennessee and Vanderbilt have backed off in their recruitment of Shelly. “I know I will use this knowledge when making my top five."
Duke doesn’t have a plan for a decision date. "I know I'd like to make some official visits and schools here lately are doing those later in the season.” Shelly feels those visits will help him make his final choice.
The road to his final decision has not been a bothersome one for Duke. “This is my chance to see the schools and make a decision that will affect the rest of my life.”
