Profile Meiko Dotson
Mainland High School (FL) defensive back Meiko Dotson was in Atlanta Saturday for the Georgia Tech-Miami game. Dotson came close to committing to Tech at the game. However, on Wednesday night he gave his commit to Coach Paul Johnson.
Dotson has been thinking about committing since Saturday night. “The visit was so good that I almost made a commitment that night.” Meiko decided to return home first and think it over. Tuesday night he knew and Dotson made the call Wednesday to Coach Johnson and became Tech’s 20th commit.
"He said he wants players that want to be at Georgia Tech and he could tell that I am one of those players.” Coach Johnson let Meiko know that he likes the way he plays the game and he loves his film. Dotson was invited back for the remaining home games to get to know the players and commits better. “He really made me feel great about my decision."
Meiko hopes to talk to defensive coordinator Ted Roof and Coach Lamar Owens to let them know he is coming to Tech. “I plan on talking to all the coaches."
Looking back, Meiko feels that it was an easy decision. "Every time I was at Georgia Tech, the coaches made me feel like I was part of the family.” Dotson felt comfortable around the players, students, and fans.
Dotson’s mom loves the decision. His dad wanted him at Tech all along and supports his son completely. “My sister, who goes to Clark, is super excited.” She told Meiko to commit when he first got his offer and now she's excited he followed through on her wish.
There were several other schools recruiting Meiko. Indiana, Iowa State, South Florida, Marshall, and Wisconsin were some of the schools recruiting Meiko. “Now only one school is in my recruiting picture. That is Georgia Tech."
Dotson plans to return for a few games and will also return for his official visit. “Coach Johnson said he will give me some dates. We will decide from there."
Meiko is happy to have made his decision. "I'm going to be at a great school and I have so much support from my family. I know this decision was the best one for me."
