Profile - Ryan Gilmartin
Charlotte Christian (NC) linebacker Ryan Gilmartin traveled to Atlanta last weekend for the Georgia Tech-Miami game. Ryan talked about the visit and his family’s impression of the game.
“The fans and students had the stadium rocking and the atmosphere was just electric.” Ryan and his family was amazed with the feeling that got from the game and they were impressed with the fan support.
Following the game, Ryan and his family drove back to Charlotte. “We loved the game and hated to have to leave as soon as it was over but we had to get home.”
Getting to see the Tech traditions was a big part of the visit for Ryan. “We saw all the traditions that Georgia Tech has from the band and the Wreck to the fans cheering the players as they made their way to the locker room.” The traditions at Tech are a big plus for Ryan.
A visit to the locker room, before the game, and a chance to talk to some of the players was also a part of the visit. Ryan watched the warm-ups and enjoyed the interaction he saw between the players and coaches.
Tech Coach Bryan Cook talked with Ryan about making a return visit and sending film to Tech. “My head coach and I both feel that an offer from Tech is just a formality. It could come in a week or later this winter when I plan on coming back.”
Gilmartin has been caught off guard by the attention he’s receiving from division one schools. "I have picked out about eight schools that are recruiting me the hardest.”
Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Penn State, North Carolina State, Duke, Wake Forest, Arizona, Hawaii, and Syracuse are the schools that Gilmartin has selected. “They are the ones that send me the most stuff and the ones I feel I have developed a relationship with over the past year."
"I'd like to come back to Georgia Tech. It will probably be in the winter when I do.” Ryan also wants to see games at Penn State, Ohio State, and Michigan State. “One game I know I will be going to will be the Wake Forest game at North Carolina State."
Middle linebacker is the position that Georgia Tech is most likely the one they want him to play. “To be honest I feel I am being recruited more for the middle or inside by all schools." Last year Ryan was a rover or bandit and played some outside linebacker. This year he started off at outside linebacker and racked up about 20 tackles in 3 games as teams were running more to the outside. But not that he is 6’ 1” and 225 pounds, his head coach moved him to the inside. "I made 18 tackles in this past game alone. I feel that the inside is my best spot and that is where I will end up.”
