Gantt Looking for Right Fit

Buford, Georgia junior running back Xavier Gantt has been one of the offensive leaders in the undefeated season thus far for Buford. His junior season has led to five early offers from division one schools.

Xavier recently visited Georgia Tech for their game with Clemson. The visit was the second to the Atlanta campus. Gantt had previously visited Tech for their last home game with Virginia.

Gantt was impressed with the way Tech handled Clemson. “They took it to them hard. That was a complete victory for the Jackets."

An early arrival on campus gave Xavier time to visit the locker room before the game. Gantt met with Coach Ted Roof. Xavier also spent some time with A Backs Coach Lamar Owens. “It was good talking to them.”

His recruitment was also a focus of the visit. "One of the current commits told me that coming to Tech would be great. He knows he made the best decision out of all the schools recruiting him.” Xavier also talked to one of the current players. “He said that he knows Georgia Tech has me high on their wish list and he'd love to have me as his teammate."

The visit was a great experience for Xavier. He recognized that the program is getting better with each week and he likes what he sees from the offense. “It was a fun time for me."

Of the five offers he’s received, Xavier has one school that stands out. Georgia Tech is that school. “They have recruited me the right way and I feel comfortable with Coach Roof when we talk.”

When Xavier gets to the point where he decides to make a decision, he has certain things he’ll be looking for in a school. Feeling at home at the school will be one the most important factors for Xavier as well as having a good relationship with the coaches. “Also, I want to get a real degree.” Xavier is looking to major in Computer Engineering and Technology.

One thing that won't make a difference in his decision is distance. “I don't care if the place is on Mars or just down the street. If I like the school and it fits what I need and want, then that is where I’ll go." Top Stories
