Oden gets unexpected offer

Schools are beginning to take notice of Columbia, Tennessee quarterback Tylin Oden. Going into the NCAA “dead period”, Oden held offers from Kentucky and Tennessee. This week Oden received a third offer.

The offer this week was one that Oden didn’t expect, especially since it’s the dead period. Georgia Tech Coach Andy McCollum called Oden’s coach to extend the Tech offer. “They watched my film and liked what they saw.” Tylin was happy to get the offer.

Coach McCollum extend an invitation for Tylin to visit Tech in a few weeks. “I’ll set that up and make the visit.”

Oden comes from the same town as Tech All-American Shaq Mason. The two know each other even though they went to different schools. “My mom says Shaq and I are related.” That news was new to Tylin. “He's a great player and everyone here is very proud of him and his accomplishments."

Tylin is showing interest in any school that has offered. “With Georgia Tech, I love the offense.” Oden has the ability to both run and throw the ball. “I would love to be a quarterback in that offense.

There is no question as to which position Oden wants to play in college. He is going to be up front with schools that are recruiting him. “I want to play quarterback in college.”

Oden will be looking for two things when choosing a school. He’ll be looking to see if he has a chance to compete for early playing time and the school will have to have his major. Location doesn’t look to be a factor for Tylin. Oden hopes to major in chemical engineering.

Besides the visit to Tech, Oden has been invited to the Ohio State Junior Day when they set up a definite date. Right now Oden is enjoying the recruiting process and hopes to take some more visits.
