Profile - Jaylend Ratliffe
"I can't tell you how great it was. It was just amazing and the best time I've had in a long, long time. The greeting Jaylend received was something he’ll always remember. Ratliffe was hosted on the trip by kicker Harrison Butker.
The Tech coaches greeted Jaylend with hugs. “They said they were glad I was alive and so happy to see me.” They are all looking forward to Jaylend being a Jacket.
Jaylend got to hang out with the players and recruits. They bowled, shot pool and he played golf with Butker. “I've never really played that much but I got out there and swung the clubs.” Following his attempt at golf, Jaylend laughingly said that he likes football better.
A decision has been made for Jaylend to report to Tech next January. “I will still graduate with my class but I will go to a community college next fall to take some classes to get me ready for college."
Ratliffe showed Tech documents that he had been cleared by the doctors to play at Tech. Those papers will now be forwarded to the NCAA. “The coaches are all behind me and will do whatever is needed for me to be a player at Tech."
Jaylend once again stated that the reason he committed to Tech was for the education. “The coaches said that I will have a scholarship no matter what. If I can play and it IS safe for me to do so, then that is great.” Jaylend is happy about his future whether or not he plays football.
The coaches told Jaylend to just worry about himself and a scholarship will be waiting for him. “I’m looking at a bright future and getting out of Scotland County. I love it here but with the opportunities a Tech degree affords, you usually leave home."
