Profile - A.J. Gray
Following a senior season in which he was named Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year and was named a Parade All-American, Washington County, GA athlete A.J. Gray is now ready to sign his LOI with Georgia Tech. Gray took his official visit to Tech this past weekend.
Gray was hosted on the official visit by Georgia Tech freshman defensive back Lance Austin and he also spent time with Tech corner Lynn Griffin. A.J. liked that he got a chance to spend time with his future teammates. "I loved hanging with Lance and Lynn, they are good people and it shows why Tech is so good as a team."
A.J. was excited about his signing class and their future at Tech. “I think we have a great class.”
The Tech coaches met with Gray and let him know that he’ll be playing defense. “Coach (Ted) Roof said he is looking at me to play Isaiah Johnson’s old spot at strong safety.” A.J. is happy that he’ll get that opportunity.
Gray has always played safety at Washington County. He also played receiver his freshman and sophomore seasons. Starting with his junior season, Gray was named the starting quarterback and he continued to play safety. “I feel safety is where I need to be on the field.”
On the subject of being name the Gatorade Player of the year, Gray said he was honored to receive the award. “It shows what a lot of hard work can do for you. I really appreciate that so many people feel that way about my play.”
A.J. enjoyed being recruited but he’s glad it has come to an end. "I can't wait to get to Tech and start my career there.”
Wednesday, Washington County will have a signing ceremony for Gray and some of his teammates that are also signing LOI’s. “I think it will be at 9:00 AM in the school cafeteria.”
