Profile - Xavier Gantt
Buford, Georgia running back Xavier Gantt had an idea which school he liked for some time now. Wednesday morning Gantt decided to end his recruitment. Xavier called Georgia Tech to give them his verbal commit.
While sitting at the dinner table with his family last week, his parents asked Xavier what it would take for a school to take him away from Georgia Tech. “I sat there and thought for a while and couldn't come up with an answer.” After praying about his decision, Gantt decided Tuesday night to commit to Tech.
Xavier talked to Coach Paul Johnson and Coach Ted Roof to give them his decision. Coach Lamar Owens and Coach Ray Rychleski were close by and he also gave them the good news. “They were so happy that I was coming to Tech.”
Now that he’s made his decision, Xavier plans to help Tech recruit other players. “I know a couple of their top targets and I will talk with them.” Gantt plans to let them know that if they want to get to the pros, they can do it at Tech. “I know at Tech, you can either make a lot of money in the NFL or you can make a lot of money with your degree.” That will be the recruiting angle Gantt will use in recruiting players to Tech.
His relationship with the coaches is one of the main reasons, Xavier chose Tech. “We have a great relationship and I know no other school can come in and build one better than I have with the coaches at Georgia Tech.”
Recent Tech commit David Curry also helped Gantt with his decision. “I asked him why he changed to Georgia Tech and he told me that the players from Georgia Tech are close and they don't pressure you in doing crazy stuff. They respect your decisions and will support you.” Xavier liked what he heard from Curry.
Georgia Tech plans to play Xavier at A Back. “They’ve had a lot of good ones and I want to continue that tradition.”
Xavier is now done with his visits He plans to tell other schools that he is happy where he is. "I am happy and know that Tech is where I belong."
Enrolling early is something that Xavier has discussed with other players and his dad. "We both feel that enjoying life is one part of growing up. Attending my senior prom and all is a part of what you do and I don't want to miss that.”
