Malik is amazed at the number of schools that are showing interest in him. The interest has led to invitations to Junior Days from many top programs. Staples has also been invited to spring practices and summer camps.

Staples is trying to take things in stride. “I’m telling myself to stay humble and really be thankful that schools are showing interest in me.” Malik is aware of the value of receiving a free education along with the chance to continue playing football.

Colorado State, Mercer, Georgia State, Samford, Temple, Texas State, and Middle Tennessee are the latest schools to offer Staples. Malik also feels that more schools are close to offering.

Coaches from Auburn, Iowa, LSU, Cincinnati, Purdue, Northwestern, and Penn State have talked to Staples in recent days. “They say they are interested in me and want to get me on campus for a visit." Louisville, Maryland, LSU, Iowa, South Carolina, and Ole Miss have all invited Malik to attend their Junior Days.

The in-state schools are also getting Malik’s attention. "I know I will going to practices at Georgia Tech, Georgia and most likely Georgia State.” Staples is not sure which practices he’ll attend.

Malik is being recruited by programs that use their backs in different ways. Staples could line up in the traditional “I” or play A or B Back in the Georgia Tech spread option. Staples feels he could play in either offense.

Staples still plans to wait until the latter part of his senior season before he makes his decision. "I don't want to wait too late but I want to see and learn about as many schools as I can before I make my decision." Top Stories
