Profile - Allen Cater
Mt. Paran Christian School (GA) defensive end Allen Cater spent Friday and Saturday getting to know Georgia Tech and their coaches. Cater concentrated on watching Coach Ted Roof’s defense practice and he plans to make a return visit to Tech.
Cater was impressed with the strides the defense is making in their play. “Coach Roof and the other defensive coaches have really gotten some great players to come there and are coaching them up. I really could see myself lining up for the Yellow Jackets."
Allen also spent some time with the coaches Saturday. “They asked me to come back for their summer camp.” Allen talked to Coach Andy McCollum and Coach Mike Pelton. Both coaches let Cater know that they’ll be attending his spring practices. Cater will be working for an offer at those practices and at the Tech summer camp.
In addition to attending the summer camp, Allen also plans to attend the April 17th Tech spring game. Cater may also attend another spring practice.
Four schools have offered Cater thus far. His offers are from in-state schools Georgia State, Kennesaw, and Mercer. Allen also has an offer from South Alabama. In addition to those offers, Allen has four schools that are showing interest in him. “Georgia Tech, Louisville, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest are the ones I hear from the most.”
At 6’4”-240 most schools are looking at Cater as a defensive end. If Allen continues to grow, there is the possibility that he could move inside.
Finding a defense where he fits will be one of the factors for Allen in making his college choice. He’ll also be looking at his relationship with the coaches at the schools recruiting him. Cater also feels it would be great if he had the chance to play again with former teammate and incoming Tech corner Dorian Walker.
