Profile - Emanuel Bridges
Bridges called Georgia Tech Coach Ted Roof last night to let him know that he was committing to Georgia Tech. “I called him first since he was my recruiting coach and today I called Coach (Paul) Johnson.” Emanuel liked that Tech was always upfront with him throughout his recruitment. “I want to do the same with Coach Roof and Coach Johnson.”
Both coaches welcomed Emanuel to the family and let him know that was welcome on campus anytime. “Coach Johnson let me know that he was through at my position and I promised him that I wouldn’t take any more visits.”
Coach Roof likes Bridges as an outside linebacker or the Jack position. “That is the position that covers the slot receiver and rushes the passer in the blitz packages. I’m excited about that.” At 6’2”-225, Emanuel could still put on some weight and possibly play the rush end in the 4-2-5.
The decision was not an easy one for Bridges. He had narrowed it down to Tech and Ole Miss. “Every time I thought about my factors, it came up Georgia Tech.” The conference didn’t play a role in his decision. Emanuel knew he could play against good competition in any of the conferences. “I don’t know why so many recruits base their decision on the conference.”
Getting a degree, that will enable him to have a better life after football, was one of the main reasons Emanuel chose Tech. The direction the program was heading was also a factor.
Emanuel was anxious to get the decision behind him before school started. “It was a tough decision and I got to the point where I didn’t answer many calls.” Like many recruits, Bridges wanted to avoid any distractions in his senior season.
His parents were also excited with Emanuel’s decision. “They were looking at the drive to some of the schools and are happy that I chose a school that is a 30 minute drive from home.” Emanuel felt they were most excited that he’ll be able to get a degree from Tech.
Emanuel will now get things in order to enroll early at Tech. “This is one thing I wanted to do to get a head start on my major and my football career.”
