Profile - Owen Pappoe
Despite being only a freshman at Grayson High School (GA), linebacker Owen Pappoe has already had close to 20 schools offer him. Pappoe recently made a return visit to one of the schools that is showing him strong interest.
Owen made the short trip to Georgia Tech to watch them play Florida State. “It was great. I can't believe I saw a game end like that.” Owen got caught up in the experience and was out on the field with the players, recruits, and fans following the game. “It was an unreal experience and I’m glad I saw a game like that.”
Prior to the game, Owen met with the coaches and talked to Coach Paul Johnson while the team was going through warmups. “He told me that while I am only a freshman he really wants me at Georgia Tech.” Owen was pleased that Tech was looking that far down the road.
Tech can’t offer Owen until his transcripts can be approved. "Coach Johnson told me not to worry about an offer right now. He is recruiting me as if I had one.” Owen is not worried about the transcripts being approved and eventually receiving the offer from Tech.
An offer from Tech would do a lot for Owen. "I love the campus and I know I would be getting a first class education.”
Owen often talks with Tech commit and teammate Chris Martin. “Chris is always telling me how great Georgia Tech is and how great it would be to play at a school that values you getting an education. I know he would like for me to be there when it’s my time to choose.” Moving forward, Owen plans to take a hard look at Tech.
Owen is approaching 20 offers and more could be on the way. Illinois and Missouri are the latest to offer. Georgia is the school that Owen feels is recruiting him the hardest. “They have offered and they are a school from my home state."
Pappoe wants to be sure that he has all the offers he can get before making a decision. He doesn’t want to commit and then be offered by a school that he feels is a better fit. “I want to be sure my choice is right the first time.”
Academics will be at the top of Owen’s list when selecting a school. Owen will also be looking for a school that has a strong football program. “I want the school to be no more than six hours from home.” Owen plans to take his time and look at each school that fits that criteria.
