Profile - Desmond Branch
Georgia Tech will get the first of the two visits from Branch. "On December 4th, I will be visiting Georgia Tech and on the 11th I will fly back to Mississippi to visit Mississippi State.” Desmond feels that those will be his final two visits but he’s not completely sure. SMU is also in the mix for Branch.
Desmond became interested in Tech after receiving a call from Coach Mike Pelton. “He said he liked what he saw of me and wanted me to come in for a visit. I knew he was serious when he asked for an expedited file of my transcripts.” Desmond knew Tech needed his transcripts before they could offer. He feels that Coach Pelton wants to offer him in person. “I’m looking forward to the trip to Atlanta to see the Tech campus and to meeting the coaches and players."
Branch doesn’t have plans to make a decision until he makes both visits. “Georgia Tech could very well be the school for me, but I promised the coaches at Mississippi Sate I would make the visit on the 11th and I will honor that visit promise” Desmond doesn’t want to leave any doubt. He’ll take the visits and then make his decision.
The three schools looking at Branch all like him at defensive end. “I’m 6’4” and close to 270 pounds.” Desmond feels his size and speed are a good fit at defensive end. “I’m strong enough to handle the run and quick enough to put pressure on the quarterback.”
A few coaches feel that with some work in the weight room that Desmond could grow into a defensive tackle. “They said I would be great at the three technique.” Desmond still feels that he would be more productive at defensive end.
One of the main factors that Desmond will be looking for in selecting a school is team chemistry. He’ll also be looking at the coaching staff to see if they are getting the best out of their players. “I also want a great business school. I want to major in Business Management or something very close to that.” Finally, Desmond will be looking at the depth chart. “I’m not afraid of competition but if there is a log jam at defensive end, it wouldn't make sense to go to that school. I feel I can prove I belong on the field no matter what."
