Athlete Arkeem Byrd starred on both sides of the ball for Jenkins High School (Savannah) in his senior season. His standout senior season has led to Byrd receiving three recent offers. The most recent offer has Arkeem real excited.

Byrd’s high school coach told him to be patient and the offers would come. He was right. “I have received three new offers from Cincinnati, Wake Forest, and just today from Georgia Tech."

The offer from Tech came as somewhat of a surprise. Arkeem has kept in touch with Tech coaches Paul Johnson and Lamar Owens. “They had told me they were in a numbers crunch as far as scholarships go. Some have opened up now and Coach Owens extended and offer to me and Coach Johnson said that they would be coming down this Wednesday night to visit with me and my family.”

Arkeem likes that Tech is a state school and recruits the Savannah area. “I like what they represent. They have great football, great academics and great connections.” Arkeem is aware of what Tech connections would mean for his future.

The offer from Coach Owens led to Byrd jumping off the couch. "I was so proud to receive the offer.” Coach Owens and Coach Johnson will be setting up an official visit date with Arkeem when they visit Wednesday. “It’s a big honor to get offered by Tech. It’s one I'll never forget."

Arkeem has enjoyed his previous visits to Tech’s campus. “I know Brad Stewart from Benedictine. It would be nice to have a teammate from the same town.

Byrd has almost doubled his offers this past month. He now has double-digit offers. “I want to see these last three schools and look them over to see what the best fit is for me.” If everything clicks on his visit to Tech, Arkeem could see himself committing.

What position would Arkeem be playing if he plays for Tech? "They said I would be the ideal defensive back.” Arkeem doesn’t have a preference for the offensive or defensive side of the ball.

It likely that Arkeem will make his college decision following his visits to Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest. He could also make a decision following his Tech visit if it goes well. “I want to go to the best place that will help me in my everyday life.”

Byrd would like to major in some form of engineering. "I understand that Tech has degrees that you go through the Business School and get a Sports Management or Sports Medicine degree. Either way, those would be the areas I would like to study in college.”
