Profile - Desmond Branch
Rio Rancho, New Mexico defensive lineman Desmond Branch took the first of two scheduled official visits this past weekend. Branch will be traveling again this weekend but not to the destination originally planned.
Desmond was in Atlanta for the first of his two visits. He described the visit to Georgia Tech as great. It was Desmond’s first visit to a big city. He enjoyed all the sights and sounds of Atlanta. “Coach (Ted) Roof made me feel wanted. He wasn't just trying to sell the school to me. He showed me how much he wanted me there at Georgia Tech.”
Coach Roof showed Branch some defensive schemes to let Desmond how he would fit in on the defensive line. “He showed me how I would be used in the three technique as well as other positions on the line.” Desmond likes that he’ll be able to come in and compete for immediate playing time. “He felt that I would see the field right away. That made me feel wanted.”
Desmond also met with the academic advisers and support staff. "I can tell that Georgia Tech is a prestigious school that carries a lot of weight in the business world. That is something that I’m looking for in a school.”
Some of the current Tech players met with Desmond. They talked about the past season as well as their goals for the 2016 season. “I like that they are hungry and want to prove this past season wasn't a true indicator of what Tech can do."
A visit to Mississippi State was originally scheduled to be the next scheduled visit for Branch. Those plans have changed. Mississippi State is no longer a school of interest for Desmond. He will instead be visiting SMU. “Right now it’s down to Georgia Tech and SMU."
A decision is imminent for Branch. He plans to make a decision during the week following his SMU visit. “I’m flying to SMU Friday. I’ll spend the weekend there. Sunday I'll come home and decide which of the two schools the best fit is for me.”
