Profile - Deshaunte Jones
Cincinnati Colerain athlete Deshaunte Jones and his family made the drive south to Atlanta this weekend for his official visit to Georgia Tech. The visit gave Jones a lot to think about before signing day.
Jones described the visit as everything he expected and more. “I had a real good time.” The family drove to Atlanta, rather than flying, to avoid possible flight cancellations due to winter storms. “It wasn't snowing when we left Cincinnati but it started snowing when we were in Kentucky.” Jones said the cold weather in Atlanta was nothing that he wasn’t used to living in Ohio.
Georgia Tech B Back Marcus Marshall hosted Deshaunte on his visit. “He was extremely positive when talking about the football program and what the school can do for you. Jones expressed how much that meant to him, “I liked what I was hearing.”
Meeting with the coaches and hearing what they had to say was a big part of the visit for Jones as was hanging out with the players. Jones said, “I loved hanging out with the players. That was a blast.”
The coaches talked to Jones about what it was like to be a student at Tech. They talked to him about his planned major and what a degree would mean to him. Talking about the position he would play was also a big part of the conversation. “They want me to start off at quarterback. If I do well, I’ll stay there.” A Back and receiver would be two other possibilities for Deshaunte. “I would like the challenge of playing in their offense. Also having the ball in my hands is a plus.”
While he didn’t commit on the visit, the weekend gave Deshaunte a lot to think about. “I know I have a big decision ahead of me. It is one that I won’t take lightly” Jones is looking at a few schools but doesn’t want to name them at this time.
Look for Deshaunte to make his decision the Monday before signing day, maybe earlier if the feeling hits him. “That will give me enough time to talk everything over with the people that are most important to me.”
