Mike spent time with several of the Tech coaches. He spent most of his time with head coach Paul Johnson, defensive coordinator Ted Roof, and defensive line coach Mike Pelton. Coach Roof showed Allen and three other defensive line recruits what he wants his defense to look like. Coach Roof also talked to Mike about making a return visit. Coach Pelton also talked to Allen about how he would fit in their scheme. “He likes me as the weak side defensive end and pass rusher.” The coaches also feel that Mike could slide over and play the strong side. “The talks with the coaches were very informative.”

Coach Johnson and Coach Roof also let Mike know that he had an offer from Tech. “It’s nice to know this early that I have the offer. It kind of sets the tone for the rest of my recruitment.” Given what he has seen from their academics and football program, Allen could see himself at Tech. “Their staff is a good one and I get the sense you will know where you stand with them.” Mike felt that Coach Johnson came across as a straight shooter.

The Junior Day visits will continue for Allen when he travels to Duke this coming weekend. The visit to Duke will be followed by one to South Carolina. “After that, I will set up visits to Wake Forest, North Carolina and North Carolina State.” Allen feels that he is getting good feedback from the schools early in his recruitment.

When selecting a school, Mike will be looking for a school that has his major. “I want to major in mechanical engineering or psychology.” Allen will also be looking at team chemistry between the coaches and the coaches and the players. His final factor will be how comfortable he feels at the school. Top Stories
