Profile - Christian Matthews
Matthews started his recruitment thinking he might commit to North Carolina State. Christian was looking for the perfect fit and was also looking to make a decision. He was being overwhelmed by the recruiting process. A visit to Georgia Tech gave Christian that perfect fit.
The visit to Tech opened Matthews’ eyes. “I knew they had a great reputation as an academic school and I also got to see the rich tradition of the basketball program.” The visit changed Christian’s impression of Tech and it put them in the driver’s seat. The visit helped make Christian’s decision an easy one. “I'll be honest. It was the best decision of my life. I can't wait to start my career at Tech."
Christian was impressed with the number of pros that worked out at Tech and he never realized how many of them went to Tech. That went a long way in influencing his decision. “Dikembe Mutombo was there. He told me Georgia Tech was a great place for me and that Atlanta was a great place to live.”
Look for Christian to begin his career at Tech playing small forward or shooting guard. “I feel more comfortable playing shooting guard but I’ll play whatever position gets me on the floor.” The Tech coaching staff likes Christian’s versatility.
Tech Coach Brian Gregory has kept in touch with Christian throughout Christian’s senior season. “The last time we talked, he told me to keep doing what I do best on the court.” Coach Gregory is also looking for Matthews to arrive at Tech in great shape. “They are expecting me to come in and make an impact.”
Fellow signees Romello White, Josh Okogie, and Christian have kept in touch since all three signed with Tech. “We talk a lot and this will be a big help when we arrive at Tech. We want to come in and continue to build on what BG has done this year. I know I’m excited to get started at Georgia Tech with my fellow teammates.”
