Profile - Michael Scott
Tallahassee North Florida Christian 2017 recruit Michael Scott has been piling up the offers following his junior season. The hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker recently visited one of those schools.
Scott was recently in Atlanta to visit Georgia Tech. He had previously attended their summer camp. This trip gave Scott a chance to see more of Tech. “My dad even had a chance to talk with Coach (Paul) Johnson.”
The visit started with Michael and his dad watching practice and briefly talking to the coaches before practice. “It was a spirited practice. You could tell that the players were ready to get out there and do some hitting.” Michael toured the campus following practice and he got to see the football facilities.
Meeting with the academic support staff was also a part of the visit for Scott. “They showed me all the support they give players.” Michael appreciated all the support they give the players. “Tech really cares that the players do well in the classroom.”
Michael’s dad had some questions he wanted answered and Coach (Paul) Johnson met with him to answer the questions. His dad was interested in seeing if Tech had the family atmosphere that they hoped to find. They also talked about the graduation rate and their role in finding jobs for the players after graduation. “He helps players get internships. I liked knowing that.”
Defensive coaches Andy McCollum and Mike Pelton also spent time with Michael. Tech is recruiting Scott as a hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker. “They both said that the JACK position would be tailor-made for me. Defensive coordinator Ted Roof let Scott know that he was anxious to get him back on campus. “I get the feeling that Tech will be recruiting me very hard.”
A return trip to Tech is in the works for Scott, “Tech receiver Christian Philpott is my best friend and I want to see him play.” Michael is not sure if he’ll be back in the spring or if it will be in the fall for a Tech home game.
Scott has several spring visits planned. He’ll be visiting Utah on the 23rd and he’ll also be visiting Louisiana-Lafayette. “On the way down there, I hope to visit Tulane and on the way back visit Alabama.
Utah, Memphis, Central Florida, and Tech are the schools that Michael feels are recruiting him the hardest. He doesn’t have any favorites at this time. “I just need to take some visits and start sorting things out.”
Michael plans to make a decision before school starts. “I may make it a little earlier or a little later.” Scott wants to have the decision made in order to enjoy his senior year. Michael hopes to major in architecture and finding a school with that major will enter into his decision. Team unity and playing time will also be important to Michael.
