Christian Matthews is ready to meet new GT head coach Josh Pastner in person.

National Christian Academy wing Christian Matthews was one of three Georgia Tech signees prior to the recent coaching change. Since the change, Coach Josh Pastner has been in touch with Matthews to talk to him about his future.

Matthews did his homework on the new coach prior to the phone conversation and he liked what he heard from Coach Pastner. "He said that he wanted me to stay with him at Georgia Tech.” Coach Pastner watched film of Chris and loved his ability to go to the basket as well as his ability to create his own shot.

Coach Pastner left little doubt that he wanted Chris at Tech. “Several times he mentioned that he wants me at Tech just as much if not more than Coach (Brian) Gregory did. Coach Pastner let Chris know that the fact that he signed with Tech speaks volumes about Coach Gregory’s ability to identify talent. “The conversation went very well for the two of us.”

Matthews feels that Coach Pastner wants him to be the same type of player that Coach Gregory envisioned him to be. “I really hope he does. That would be icing on the cake for me. I like Tech a lot and feel it’s a great fit for me.”

It was easy for Chris to see that Coach Pastner had done his homework on who he was and what type of player that he was. Chris did the same about Coach Pastner and he liked what he has read about him. “He has a good coaching record and he coached under two good coaches in Lute Olsen and John Calipari. I think he will do very well at Georgia Tech."

The two plan to meet face to face to have additional talks about Coach Pastner’s plans for Chris. The two will meet on April 21st. “I’m anxious to meet him and have an in-depth talk."

Right now Chris plans to stay with Georgia Tech. Chris feels that Georgia Tech under Coach Pastner is the place for him. “I know once we meet next week I’ll know for sure. Right now, I’d say I’m leaning to stay with Georgia Tech."

>Chris has kept in touch with fellow signees Josh Okogie and Romello White. They talked the weekend of the Final Four. “I get the impression that they are really looking to stay with Georgia Tech and if they do, I feel for certain I will for sure.” Even if they don’t, Chris still feels that Tech is the right place for him.

All three plan to talk again after Chris has his meeting with Coach Pastner. The other two have already met with Coach Pastner. “All three of us want to compare notes and see how it feels after we meet Coach." Top Stories
