Josh Okogie recently met with new GT head basketball coach Josh Pastner.

Shiloh, GA combo guard Josh Okogie signed his letter of intent with Georgia Tech in the early signing period. Following the 2015/16 season, Tech made a coaching change. What are Josh’s plans with a new coach now at Tech?

It didn’t take long for incoming Tech Coach Josh Pastner to contact Okogie. Coach Pastner called to introduce himself and to discuss what he wanted to talk about when they met face to face. “He said his first priority was to keep Romello White, Christian Matthews, and myself at Georgia Tech. I really liked what he had to say in our phone conversation.”

Following the phone call, Coach Pastner met with Josh and his family Tuesday evening. "He wanted me and my parents ask any questions and to let him know of any concerns we had with the coaching change. Josh and his parents were both close to Coach Brian Gregory and Coach Chad Dollar. Coach Pastner let Josh know that he expects him to come in and be both a leader and the go-to guy. “One thing that stood out in our meeting was that he said he liked me as a player and a person. He said he saw why Coach Gregory really wanted me at Georgia Tech."

Coach Pastner and Josh also talked about building the team around the three incoming signees. “He wants us to build the team chemistry when we arrive at Tech.” Josh was at the Tech workouts Thursday to meet the team and watch Coach Pastner coach the team. “I liked how he worked with the players.”

Josh is comfortable with Coach Pastner’s role for him on the team. “I think he and Coach Gregory have/had great plans for my role on the team.” Coach Pastner plans to use Josh at both guard positions.

Now that the two have met, Josh feels that Tech is the place for him. He also feels that as he gets to know Coach Pastner better, he’ll trust him just as he did Coach Gregory. “I think Tech is where I need to be. I plan on reporting in June.” Josh feels that he can be a part of getting Tech back to their past glory and thinks that would be a great accomplishment. “It would be sweet knowing I am a part of building the program back to national prominence.”

Knowing that Christian Matthews will probably be joining him makes Josh also feel good about Romello White also keeping his commitment. “I know Romello likes Tech and if Chris and I are there, I have a  good feeling that Romello will be with us.”

Josh feels that Coach Pastner can rebuild the team quicker than most expect. “I think he will have Tech back as a top tier team in the ACC. I feel Coach Pastner will get that recognition back for Tech.” Top Stories
