Profile - Christian Matthews
The last part of Georgia Tech signee Christian Matthews’ recruitment ended on a positive note Thursday night. Chris met with new Tech Coach Josh Pastner and liked what Coach Pastner had to say.
Chris was impressed with the enthusiasm that Coach Pastner has for his job and what he wants to do at Tech. “I could tell by talking with Coach Pastner is that he is a person that wants to win and I definitely want to be a part of that.” Chris also liked what he heard when the two talked about the offense Tech would run. “I’m definitely staying with Georgia Tech."
Tech will run an up-tempo offense from baseline to baseline. "I feel that’s a perfect style of play for me.” Matthews played in similar offenses for both his high school and AAU teams. “He wants Josh (Okogie), Romello (White), and myself to come in and help the players that are already there.” Chris likes that all three of them can control their own destiny.
Since his meeting with Coach Pastner, Chris has spoken to both Josh and Romello. “Josh is stoked and ready to come in like I am.” Romello feels the same way but has some issues to clean up. “We’ll know more about that as summer gets here.” As of now, all three players are happy with Coach Pastner and his style of play and are set to report in June. “We will be working hard to be the best team we can and build from there.”
Aside from the three signees, Tech has two remaining scholarships. “Coach Pastner said he is looking to get a post player grad transfer and he really would like to get a 2016 point guard.” Coach Pastner let Chris know that he feels he can get one to come in and accomplish what he is looking for.
Chris will report to Tech for orientation on June 15th. “Coach Pastner already had every date for us down pat. He is well organized and I can tell he is a tireless worker.” Chris knows he has to be ready to come in and work hard. “I can’t let the coach out work me (laughing).”
