Long County, Georgia safety Tariq Carpenter visited and committed to Central Florida in early April. Since then, Tariq has been getting attention from schools in the South. Earlier this week Carpenter was offered by one of those schools.

Summer is right around the corner and Tariq is looking forward to visiting some schools and moving on to his senior year. “I’m actually looking forward to the next chapter in my life.” Georgia Tech will be one of the schools getting a visit from Tariq. “They offered me Tuesday and Coach (Lamar) Owens wants me to come up for a visit.” Carpenter is looking forward to seeing the school and meeting the players.

Tariq’s size is one of the things that has gotten the attention of the Tech staff. Carpenter is 6’2”-195 and the coaches feel his size and flexibility will be a big asset. They feel that Tariq can put on some good weight and be a dangerous player in the secondary.

When Tariq visits Tech, he also plans to visit Georgia State. Central Florida, Florida, Georgia Southern, Miami, and Memphis are the other planned visits. “I may camp at Purdue this summer.” Southern is one of the schools that is going hard after Tariq. In addition to staying in touch with Tariq, Southern has also visited his spring practice.

Moving forward, Carpenter feels that Tech will be a school that he’ll seriously consider. “They are close to home. My family could come to see me play.” Tariq hopes to be a sports management major and knows that he can do that at Tech. “I love their tradition and the fact that many players either go to the NFL or get good paying jobs.” Team chemistry and a coaching staff that will help him succeed are two other factors that Tariq will be looking at in making his decision.

When it comes time to make his college choice, Carpenter knows he can turn to his parents for support. “They want me to be happy and successful wherever I go to college. I have their support and help 100%."
