Kahuku, Hawaii defensive lineman Aliki Vimahi has seen his offer list grow this spring. The offers were confined to the west coast and Hawaii until one school from the east coast watched Aliki practice and offered him following the visit.

Kahuku High School has been a destination for many west coast schools during the evaluation period. Georgia Tech is the latest school to visit Aliki. Coach Buzz Preston returned to the state where he had previously coached to evaluate Aliki. “I’m very honored that he would travel all the way from the east coast to show his interest in me.” Coach Preston offered Vimahi and invited him to visit Tech. “I know I’m very interested in Tech and I’ll visit them.” Aliki plans to visit after his senior season.

Aliki is aware of the former Tech players that are playing in the NFL. Denver Bronco second round draftee Adam Gotsis was the most recent Tech player. “Knowing that they put defensive linemen in the NFL made me appreciate the offer even more.”

The distance from Hawaii to Atlanta would not be an issue for Aliki. "I have several first cousins, an aunt and uncle, and many other family members that live very close to the Georgia Tech campus. They would love it if I played for Tech. They could come see me play.” Aliki likes the idea of having family members so close to the campus.

Aliki plans to take all of his official visits before making a decision. “Tech will be getting one. I want to know more about them.” Aliki likes that Tech plays in a power five conference and that they have an excellent academic reputation. “Coach Preston made a good impression on me.” As for the other four officials, Aliki feels he’ll have to wait to see how his recruitment plays out. BYU, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon State, and San Diego State will be some of the schools he’ll consider for a visit.

When taking his official visits, Aliki will be focused on seeing how he relates to the coaching staffs. Aliki will also be looking at the academic reputation of the schools that he visits. A third factor will be his relationship with the players and students. “It will be about which school bests fits all the factors I’ll be looking for on my visits.”
