Profile - D.J. Burns
York Academy in Rock Hill, South Carolina will be the destination for college coaches in the coming years. 2019 York post player D.J. Burns is already receiving offers from some of the top basketball programs. D.J. recently visited one of those schools.
D.J made the trip south to Atlanta last week to visit Georgia Tech. “It was a great visit for me.” Burns met all the coaches. “They went out of their way to make me feel welcome.” The coaches placed an emphasis on the student side of the student/athlete equation when talking to Burns. D.J. hopes to major in sports science and feels Tech would be a good place to achieve that.
The coaches also talked to D.J. about getting Tech back on top. They let D.J. know that they already had a game for the 2019 class and that he would be a big part of that plan. “I’m honored that they have targeted me to be honest.”
Discussing where D.J would play was not part of the equation on his first visit. "They are getting to know me on a personal level and they are waiting to see how I fill out as I continue to grow." D.J. plays both the four and the five for York Academy. He loves to rebound, block shots, and score down low. “I feel that I’ll be able to play both positions in college."
Before he left campus, D.J. received an offer from Coach Josh Pastner. He wanted me to know that not only does the staff want me there, but that he is personally is looking forward to recruiting me." The offer from Tech was the seventh for Burns.
Burns has not thought about how he’ll handle all the offers that he’ll probably receive over the next few years. "I’m truly blessed to have this many offers. If I continue to get them at this rate, it will be a tough job to narrow it down to a top five let alone picking just one school."
Finding a school that has his major and a school that has a good basketball program will be two of the priorities for Burns in his college search. "I let Coach Pastner know that Georgia Tech is one school that fits that already.” D.J was impressed with the energy of the coaching staff at Tech and liked that they were down to earth.
A return visit to Tech is in the works for D.J. He has already attended two of the “Power Hour” individual workouts and he plans to return for two more additional sessions. Burns will also be in Knoxville this weekend to visit Tennessee. “My plans for the summer are to hit the gym for my own personal workouts and just relax. It has been a busy school year and AAU season."
