McEachern High School (GA) cornerback Jaytlin Askew had several schools that he was considering before making his visit to Georgia Tech yesterday. Following the visit, it was clear to Jaytlin that Tech was where he wanted to be.

Jaytlin made the visit Thursday with his mom and his sister. Driving home from the visit, Jaylin told them that Tech was where he wanted to be. “The feeling took me by surprise." Jaytlin called Coach Andy McCollum and told him the news. Coach McCollum then had Askew return to campus to give Coach Paul Johnson the news. “He was real excited. The other Tech coaches came into Coach Johnson’s office and when they heard the news, they started jumping up and down." Jaytlin knew that Coach Ted Roof would be glad. “He talked about having my speed in the secondary. All I know is I found the school I wanted and I am firm with my decision."

Askew made his first visit to Tech for their Junior Day and visited a few of their practices. “The coaches were really great in communicating with me throughout this whole process.” Jaytlin also received a visit from Tech at his spring practice. “I was offered sometime in between those dates.” Yesterday’s visit included a tour of the campus, talking to the coaches, and meeting with the academic people.

The education equation played a big role in Jaytlin’s decision. “Going to college is not just about football. It’s about getting a degree that can make you successful in life.” Jaytlin wanted to make sure his degree would give him the opportunity to make something of his future. He plans to major in Robotic Engineering.

Before he made his decision, Askew was also considering Auburn, Florida State, and Mississippi State. “They just didn’t measure up to what Tech can offer both on and off the field.” Will Askew be taking any other visits? Jaytlin plans to take all five of his official visits. “I want to take them to be able to say that Tech is the right place for me. I am locked in to Tech." Jaytlin was upfront with Coach Johnson on taking the visits. “He was okay with it since I did it that way.”

The decision to attend Tech was a happy one for Jaytlin’s family. They like that he’ll be playing close to home. “My mom is excited about all aspects of Georgia Tech.”

Now that he has made his decision, Jaylin plans to talk to other recruits about committing to Tech. "I’m definitely hitting up the big players to come in with us. Georgia Tech is the place to be and I fully intend on getting the best to come in with us this year."
