Minihan commits after a whirlwind week

Honolulu, Hawaii offensive lineman Mikey Minihan has experienced a whirlwind week that has led to his commitment. Minihan visited Georgia Tech last Thursday, was offered on Monday, and gave them his commit today.

Prior to giving Tech his commit, Mikey visited Auburn last Saturday. Minihan saw good things from both schools. “I loved the campus at Georgia Tech and the city feel and I did like the rural, small town feel of the campus at Auburn.” Mikey also liked that Tech has a more prominent national academic reputation. “Each school has their pluses but I feel Tech had just a bit more of what I liked."

The offer from Tech was one that Mikey really wanted. "The coaches made me feel really at home at Tech but I still wanted to visit Auburn.” Auburn told Minihan that they wanted to look at him before they offered. “I think that was a point where my recruitment took a turn and I decided on Tech."

Tech’s academics, their football tradition and the coaches helped Mikey in making his decision. “All the coaches are awesome.” Minihan was recruited by Coach Buzz Preston and he also spent time with Coach Ron West and Coach Brad Waggoner on his visit. “Coach West relates to the players and he has so much knowledge to give a player on the offensive line."

Mikey called Coach Preston to give Tech his commit and then he spoke with Coach Paul Johnson, Coach West and Coach Mike Sewak. "They all were super excited about me committing and told me that they want me to get there and be an impact player.” Minihan understands that he might red-shirt but he also feels he’ll be given the chance to play. “I will be getting together with the recruiting coordinator and the academic staff to get everything ready to submit my application to the school.”

Coach Johnson and Coach West both talked to Mikey about where he would play on the offensive line. “They both said that I am big enough and physical enough to play either at guard or center.” Minihan is also athletic enough to play the tackle position. The coaches are excited about Minihan’s versatility. “I take that as a huge compliment. All my hard work has paid off.”

Will Mikey take any more visits? "I am done with my recruitment. I am as solid as anyone can be in my
commitment to Tech." Mikey’s parents attended Auburn but they are happy with his decision. “They see the value of that degree and they see how happy I am with this commitment. It wouldn't change a thing if Auburn did offer. I’m 100% committed to Georgia Tech. I’m really stoked about this. I just can't tell you how much I am."
