Alvarado chose Tech over Rutgers and Seton Hall a month after taking an official visit to Tech to meet the coaches, players, and tour the campus and facilities. Alvarado described Tech as being an awesome place. Having a chance to play in the ACC and playing at a school that has a rich tradition for point guards are two things that stood out to Jose. He was also impressed with the staff that Pastner hired to help make the players better. “I think the new staff can turn the program around.”
Alvarado becomes the first commit in the 2017 class and was considered to be the first high profile recruit that Coach Pastner pursued. Alvarado also indicated that in his conversations with the GT coaching staff, Coach Pastner saw him as a winner and that Pastner was impressed with his toughness. Alvarado will be the player that Coach Pastner was looking for to be his floor general in the tough ACC.
