Doomes used the summer AAU season to gain the attention of these coaches. “I truly feel that my AAU season boosted my recruitment." Doomes team finished third in the Peach Jam and made the elite 8 in the final AAU tournament. Trey is now preparing for his junior season.
Four or five new schools have entered Trey’s recruitment this fall. Clemson is the latest. They have been to his workouts along with Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Middle Tennessee, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and UAB. “Georgia Tech is coming in for a visit next week. I like the direction they’re taking my recruitment.”
The most recent visit for Doomes was to Tech for their Thursday night game with Clemson. “It was a great visit.” Doomes spent time with the coaches as well as other recruits like Collin Sexton. “The coaches had a lot to say to us on the visit.”
Coach Josh Pastner let Trey know how much he liked his style of play. “He said I was a combo guard that he'd have no problem putting me in three different spots on the floor.” Coach Pastner let Trey know that he will be taking a special interest in his recruitment. “I loved knowing he is very genuine and sincere in his recruitment of me."
Doomes was offered by the previous staff at Tech and he also has been offered by Coach Pastner. “He wanted me to know that he had his eye on me even before he became the head coach at Tech.” Doomes likes that the staff knows him well now. “It makes me feel even more comfortable.”
Five schools have been recruiting Trey the hardest. Auburn, Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia, and Georgia Tech are on that list. “Clemson and Florida State are also coming on strong."
Trey is not in a hurry to make his college choice. "I will probably sign in the April period. If I sign in November, it will be at the very end of the signing period.” Trey will get with his AAU coach, his high school coach, and with his parents to sort through everything and make the best choice.
When it comes to making his choice, education will come first. Trey wants to major in business or engineering. “My mom will have a lot to say in this. She loves Georgia Tech.” Trey’s mom likes that a degree from Tech can open a lot of doors for Trey after graduation. Trey’s relationship with the coaching staff will be another factor in his decision. Finally, Trey will be looking for a campus that is close to home. “I want my family to be able to have an easy drive to come see me play. I also want the school to be far enough away that I feel like I am on my own.”null
