Harris Talks Commitment And Visits

Robert E. Lee High School recruit and current Georgia Tech commit talks about commitment and visits he has made and ones he will make before his signs his LOI.

Jacksonville, Florida offensive lineman Demetris Harris gave his verbal commit to Georgia Tech shortly after his visit to their summer camp in July. In spite of the commit, the Robert E. Lee recruit continues to draw interest from other schools.

Is Harris 100% committed to Tech with the other schools showing him interest? "It isn't closed down 100% and I wouldn't say I am actively looking for another school.” Harris feels that if today were signing day, he would definitely be signing with Tech.

Harris has already taken one visit and he plans to take two others. In-state school South Florida has already received a visit from Demetris. “The visit was good and the coaches really made my visit a big deal.” Demetris toured the school and had a chance to mingle with the players and the students. Demetris was surprised by the size of the school. Demetris felt that all in all the visit was a good one. “The South Florida coaches hit me up at least three times a week to tell me how much they want me there. That shows that they want me."

Harris also plans to take an official visit to Wake Forest in the near future. "The last weekend of January I will be taking my official visit to Georgia Tech.” No other visits are planned at this time.

Monday Harris received a visit from Tech Coach Lamar Owens. “He let my coach know how much of a priority I was in the 2017 class.” Harris feels that it is more about other schools coming after him than it is about how GT is recruiting him. “Georgia Tech has always recruited me hard from the beginning. Their fans don't have to worry about the coach not doing his job. He is."

When asked how committed he was to Tech, Demetris felt that he was 75 to 85% sure that he would sign with Tech. “I love everything about Georgia Tech but this is something that comes along only one time and I am making sure I do everything right.” Visiting other schools before signing day is the way Demetris feels is the best way to do things.

A change of heart would have Harris’ phone ringing off the hook. “(Laughing) I know Connor (Hansen) would be the first person to call me and then Zach (Quinney) would be next followed by the Swilling brothers. Like I mentioned, I feel it is Georgia Tech but doing it right is important to me."
