Oliver down to two schools

Northside Warner Robins, GA dual-threat quarterback Tobias Oliver picked up his sixth offer this week. Oliver likes two of the schools on his offer list. He talked to GoJackets.com about where things stand with his recruitment.

Oliver and his teammates head to Glynn Academy Friday to play a quarterfinal game in the state playoffs. Oliver is excited about the opportunity to advance in the playoffs. “It would be great to finish my senior year with a state title."

The most recent offer for Tobias came from Coach Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech. “It is an honor to get an offer from the prestigious state school and one that runs an option offense that really fits my skill set.” The offer from Tech is one that Tobias was hoping to get.

Tech began recruiting Tobias in the spring and he’s kept in touch with them ever since. “Over the last month, Coach (Andy) McCollum has really started recruiting me hard leading up to the offer this week. He kept telling me to be patient that they really liked me.” Tech feels that Tobias can come in and fit right in with their spread option offense. “I’m glad I waited. This is a very good offer to get."

The offer from Tech brings Oliver’s total to six. Oliver has narrowed that list to Army and Georgia Tech. “The coach at Army (Jeff Monken) used to coach at Georgia Tech from what he told me so there is a lot of similarity between the two in the offense they run."

The decision to look at those two schools came down to the offense they run and the chance to get a first class education. “I want to major in Sports Medicine and both can give me that so that is why they are my final two schools.

Tobias hopes to make his decision before he takes any official visits. He may only take the one visit after he makes his choice. “I know the decision will come within the next two weeks.” It would not be a surprise if the decision comes as early as this weekend or early next week.

Oliver will sit down with his parents and high school coach to discuss the pros and cons of each school. He’ll then make the decision that is the best fit. “Once I make that decision, it will be final."
