Appleberry taking it all in

Creekside, GA running back Gino Appleberry finished his junior season with over 1,000 rushing yards. The result has been more schools taking notice of Gino and what he accomplished this season. Appleberry hopes that leads to additional besides the two he currently holds.

Georgia Tech, Rutgers, and Virginia are some of the schools that have recently contacted Gino. Those schools, in addition to his offers from Fresno State and Mercer, are the ones currently showing interest in Gino. “I see a positive trend in my recruitment.”

Kennesaw State and Georgia Tech are two of the schools that have received visits from Gino. Both run the spread option. “I liked watching and seeing all three running backs get yardage as well as the quarterback." Gino especially liked watching the A Backs being part of the passing game against Duke. “I really like that offense.”

Coach Buzz Preston is the lead Tech recruiter for Appleberry’s recruitment. “He is a cool guy. I like him a lot." Coach Preston let Gino know that Tech likes Gino’s size at the A Back position. Gino is currently 5’9”-190. Gino was invited to make a return visit to Tech following the initial visit to the Duke game. Gino is looking forward to the opportunity to watch Tech practice. “I want to see the players go through practice and have a chance to talk to the coaches.”

It’s early in his recruitment and Gino is not looking for any particular factors when looking at the schools recruiting him. “I’m just taking it all in and seeing how it lines up.” Gino expects to have an idea of what he wants by the time Junior Day visits begin. “I know that getting a good education will be a factor. I don't want to be a player that doesn't have a good degree to fall back on after football is over."

When does Gino plan to make a decision? "I haven't given that much thought. I’m just really getting a good look at how the process really works." Top Stories
