Mabry plans return trip to Tech

Brentwood, Tennessee offensive lineman Cole Mabry spent last Sunday learning about one of the schools showing him interest. The 6’6”- 270 junior was impressed with what he saw on his visit and plans to make a return visit.

Mabry described his visit to Georgia Tech as going really well. “I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.”  Cole thought it was cool how the Tech staff transitioned from hosting 2017 official visitors to hosting 2018 recruits.  “It showed me that the coaches are hard workers and recruiters and that they really love their job.”

A tour of the school was part of the agenda for Cole on his Sunday visit. “It was an awesome setting.  We saw the facilities including the locker room that they are hoping to start remodeling soon.”

Cole is being recruited by Coach Andy McCollum. “He’s great. He’s very energetic and a tireless worker.  I really hit it off with him.” Cole also was welcomed by Coach Paul Johnson. “He takes pride in the great education you will get at Georgia Tech. He also puts a top 25 football program on the football field.”  Cole was impressed by the bowl visits under Coach Johnson as well as the number of times they’ve played for the ACC Championship.

Offensive line Coach Mike Sewak also met with Mabry. The two talked about how they break down the line with Coach Sewak coaching the center and guards and Coach Ron West coaching the tackles and teaching the blocking schemes.

Coach McCollum gave Mabry an open invitation to return to Tech for spring practice. “It’s only about a three hour drive, so I’m going to take them up on it.  Georgia Tech will be one the schools I will looking at hard during my recruitment.” Cole was impressed with the combination of academics and football that Tech offers. “They have a really attacking run blocking scheme which I like.”

In addition to receiving interest from Tech, Cole is also hearing from Indiana, Purdue, Memphis, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, North Carolina and Auburn. “I’d like to visit some of those schools in the spring.”

At one time, Cole was hoping to make his decision by the end of the summer but he’s not so sure about that now. “I’d like to visit as many schools as I can and I feel that will take me past the end of the summer.” Cole is also planning to take all five of his official visits.

What will Cole be looking for in reaching a decision? “Ideally the first thing is my relationship with my position coach as well as the rest of the staff.” Cole is also looking for a school that will give him a chance to get a first class education. Finally, Cole will also be looking for help in finding internships and a job after graduation. Top Stories
