Austin and his dad made the short trip to Atlanta Saturday to visit Georgia Tech. “We toured the school and had a very good time. Austin was hosted on the trip by his recruiting coach Joe Speed. “He was a straight shooter with us.” Austin and his did visited the rec center, the weight room, and heard about the plans for the future of the locker room. “We also saw more of the athletic facilities as well as the academic side of things.”

Getting to know more about the academic side of things was one of the highlights of the visit for Austin. “Academics will be the most important thing for me in making my college choice. Austin was impressed with the combination of academics and football that Tech offers. The chance to meet one on one with Coach Speed was also a highlight for Austin and his dad. “It was informative and it allowed my dad and me to ask questions. It was a perfect way to handle the visit.”

Look for Smith to return to Tech for their spring practices or the spring game. “I plan to do both. I want to see more of Georgia Tech.” Smith is glad that the campus isn’t that far from his home and will make visiting easy.

Getting to meet some of the former Tech players was also a part of the visit for Austin. “They told me that picking Georgia Tech was the best decision that they made.” The players let Austin know that Tech helped planned their futures. “That will stick with me throughout my recruitment.”

Smith has been offered by Tech and currently has a 3.4 GPA. “I’m taking honors classes which will help me in choosing a school.” Austin now has ten offers. ”Georgia Tech, Kentucky, and North Carolina are recruiting me hard.”

The Tech staff has watched film of Smith and they like him at the three technique. Smith is 6’3”-285 and is still growing. “I play both defensive end and offensive tackle at Ola but I think defense is where I'll play in college. To be honest, that is where I like playing the most."
