Mike Maye could end recruitment with right offer

Hoover, Alabama all-state offensive lineman Mike Maye started his spring visits Monday with a trip to Atlanta to visit Georgia Tech. Maye is looking to add to his list of offers this spring.

Maye came away impressed with his visit to Tech. “I absolutely loved it there.” Mike was hosted on his visit by his recruiting coach Mike Pelton. The Tech staff like what they see from Maye and plan to visit his spring practice. Maye feels that an offer could be coming after they watch him practice. “Coach Pelton said that Coach (Paul) Johnson likes to see the players in practice or camps before offering. He said that I shouldn’t worry that in his opinion it is just a formality that I get an offer.” Mike likes the combination of athletics and football at Tech and hopes to get that offer.

Prior to attending Tech’s practice, Maye toured the campus and the athletic and academic facilities. “I can tell you they are impressive.” While watching practice, Mike liked how the offensive line fired off the ball from their four point stance. “I love that offense.  It ties in with what I have been taught. It would be a perfect fit.” Mike plans to return to Tech to have another chance to watch practice or the spring game.

Some additional schools will also be getting visits from Maye. “In two weeks I am going to Tulane for a camp. “ Mike will also visit Georgia State. They are one of the seven schools that have offered. He may also visit Mercer.

Vanderbilt and Mississippi State are two other schools showing interest in Maye. State has been recruiting Maye since he was a sophomore. “They have really stepped up their recruitment.”

Despite not having an offer at this time from Tech, they are one of his favorites. “I hit it off with the staff and loved the school. If I was to get that offer, it might be something that would have me thinking about making a decision.” As things stand now, Mike plans to use his senior season as a recruiting tool. “I want to see how many more schools I can get to offer me. If the right school offers, I could end it early.”

Academics and playing football at the highest level will be the two main factors for Maye in making his decision. “I’m an equally hard worker in the classroom as I am on the football field and I want a valuable degree.” If the school is close to home, that will be another positive for Maye in making his decision.
