Ernest Jones plans to trim list to seven

Ware County, Georgia outside linebacker Ernest Jones has quietly received offers from P5 schools around the South. Following some spring visits, look for Jones to trim those list of offers and then make his college choice.

Jones currently has around 20 offers. He recently visited Auburn and then he was in Durham Monday to visit Duke. Following those visits, Jones will is visiting South Carolina on March 28.He’ll finish the week by visiting Florida on March 29.

A return visit to Georgia Tech is also in the works. “I’m making sure that I head back to Georgia Tech to talk with my recruiting coach - Coach (Mike) Sewak - and my position coach -Coach (Ted) Roof. Ernest also hopes to speak to Coach Paul Johnson on the visit. “Coach Roof and I are real close. He treats me like I am his own son and tells me how much he wants me at Georgia Tech so he can coach me."

Former teammate and current Georgia Tech player Dedrick Mills also continues to recruit Jones. “He tells me he’d love to have me as his teammate again and how much he loves it up there at Georgia Tech. He is not overbearing but he gives me pointers on stuff I would like if I went there."

Ernest is getting close to trimming his offer list to 7 schools. “I don’t see any schools that haven’t offered that I will wait on for an offer.” Ernest plans to trim that list in early May and then make his choice later in the month. Sticking with his decision will not be a problem for Jones. “Once I make up my mind, it is nearly impossible to get me to change it. When I pick my school, you can bank on it as far as me going there unless the coaching staff leaves."

The schools recruiting Jones like his leadership qualities. “My downhill game is great and I’m a hard hitter and sure tackler.” As he prepares for his senior season Jones is working on improving his straight ahead and side to side speed.

Having the chance to play as a freshman is one of the things that Jones will be looking for in making his college choice. Academics will also play a big role in his decision. “I’m favoring strong academic schools and I want a school that will help me make connections with companies around the state or country.” Top Stories
