Watts looking for playing time

Old Redford Academy, Michigan guard Mark “Rocket” Watts has started his AAU season by picking up some new offers. The 2019 Detroit recruit is looking to add additional offers as the circuit moves forward.

Mark picked up the nickname “Rocket” while playing football. “I was usually the fastest player on the team. My teammates gave me the nickname.”

Four new schools have recently offered Watts. Following the opening weekend on the AAU circuit, “Rocket” was offered by Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Mississippi State, and Marquette. Watts had already been offered by UAB and Oakland.

Tech was the first school to offer following his weekend play. “I got the offer first thing Monday morning when I went to school.  My high school coach called me into his office and told me that Coach (Tavaras) Hardy was very impressed with my play and that he wanted to extend an offer to me.” Watts wished he could have talked to Coach Hardy. “Georgia Tech is a school that interests me.” Watts plans to take an unofficial visit to Tech following the AAU season. “I’m just not sure of the date or time but I will get with my parents to set it up and make it happen.”

While he is being recruited as a shooting guard, “Rocket” feels he can play either the point or the shooting guard position equally well. He’s willing to play either position at the next level. “I’m an excellent scorer. I can shoot the ball and I can create my own shot.” Watts is working on getting stronger, faster, improving his defensive skills, and he’s working towards improving his chance to play in the NBA.

Playing time is the only factor Watts is looking at right now in determining which school he’ll choose. “I don’t want to ride the bench. I want to be able to help my team win. The drive in me is strong.” Distance from home will not be a factor in his decision. “I’ll go to the school that I feel is the best fit for me no matter where it is in the country.”
