Darlington School, Georgia 2018 athlete Tijai Whatley is using his summer visits to move closer to naming a favorites list which will lead to Whatley making his college choice. Whatley recently visited one of those schools.

Whatley made the trip south on I-75 to visit the campus of Georgia Tech.  The visit was focused more on academics than it was on football. What Tijai saw of the campus was a surprise to him. “People talk about Georgia Tech and they have positive things to say about it but seeing it in person makes it even better. I loved the visit.”

A tour of the business school got Tijai started on the academic side of things. He also toured the dorms and had a chance to talk to some of the current players. “The highlight of the visit was being able to sit down and talk one on one with Coach (Paul) Johnson.”

The talk with Coach Johnson gave Tijai a chance to go over everything he wanted to know. “Coach Johnson talked about how his players and other athletes from Georgia Tech get internships and even full time jobs right out of college.” Coach Johnson let Tijai know that they wanted him as an A Back. Coach Johnson also let Tijai know that they were only going to take one or two A Backs in the 2018 class. “I told him I loved everything I saw as did my mom who came with me.”

Mom was also impressed with the visit. “She loved talking with Coach Johnson.” The news that 95% of the players get jobs after they graduate got her attention. They were also told about a few of the players that have jobs waiting for them when they graduate. “You have to sit up and take notice of that.”

Following the visit to Tech, Whatley’s other visits included Purdue, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, and Western Kentucky. Tijai had thought about visiting Clemson but he may not make that visit. Following the visits, Tijai plans to name a top three or five sometime in July. “Before I head back to school for my senior year, I will pick a college to attend.”
