Tech adds another Football Commitment

Jamal Lewis becomes Georgia's Tech's newest Football Commitment. He talks about his decision plus a first hand analysis of the type of player Tech is getting.

Georgia Tech recruiting has heated up in the past month, and they have picked up another star from the peach state. Jamal Lewis of Jonesboro will make the short drive up to Atlanta to attend Georgia Tech.

"I committed to Georgia Tech on Thursday," said Lewis. "I think that is really a great fit for me. I think I have a chance to go to the NFL, but that is a great degree to have afterwards. I'm probably going to set up my official visit with them in December. I am going to the Georgia game in a couple of weeks."

Lewis has excellent size to play corner on the next level. His Nike Camp numbers were impressive turning in a 4.44 forty time at Auburn. The times from that camp were abnormally fast for some players, but Lewis turned around and ran a 4.50 flat at the MSL Combine that was held at Georgia Tech. That time was equally impressive because it was run on the Tech practice field that is covered with the notoriously slow "field turf". His 4.41 shuttle time was another good mark on the day.

He is excellent in pass coverage, and he has a very good break on the ball. In a run oriented region, Lewis does not get the chance to defend the pass very often, but he is a physical corner that has totaled more than 60 tackles on the season, including a 15+ tackle performance against Westside last week. He is a member of the Georgia Hot 100, and he is a player that will rise on this chart based on a solid senior season after very good summer camp performances.

Lewis chose Georgia Tech over offers from Duke, UCONN, and Wake Forest.

Jonesboro has struggled a bit this season, but Lewis has and his teammates are looking to go out on a strong note having beaten Stockbridge last night.
