Last Minute 4 Star Discusses Decision.

Louisiana DL, and Georgia Tech signee Darryl Richard was one of the hardest players to reach via telephone in the class of 2004. Rarely giving interviews or speaking to the media, Richard had a cloud of uncertainty surrounding his college choice, and he kept quite a few schools sweating his decision until the very end. When it was all said and done on February 4th, the Yellow Jackets received his signature and got themselves quite a gem to boot.

"I chose Georgia Tech because I liked the atmosphere there. I love the area, and they had the best facilities I saw of all the places visited. I think I can go in and play early as well," Darryl Richard said.

When did the big man come to a final decision?

"I made it while I was sitting in the office on signing day. It came down to Georgia Tech and Miami. I just saw myself better at Tech."

Did the Jacket coaches get the good news before the fax arrived on the Flats?

"No, I called them after I signed. I just heard a whole bunch of noise in the background when I told them. Coach Gailey sounded excited, and just told me to be ready when I got there."

Did Tech's wide array of out of state recruits make Daryl feel a bit more comfortable coming in on a clean slate with everybody else?

"It's a real big thing with Georgia Tech's widespread recruiting. They recruit nationally, and as a player you just feel more comfortable coming in with others in your same situation. I heard lots of stuff about schools and how they treat the in state guys a little better."

Richard is currently slated to major in Management when he reports to campus this fall. He will be a welcome addition to a Georgia Tech defensive line in need of depth for the 2004 season. Top Stories
