Jerrell Mabry rushed for 1,200 yards on only 125 carries last season for Shaw. He added 23 touchdowns to his totals. At 6-2 and 249 pounds, Mabry is a huge load. His size is excellent for the fullback position, and his speed is good enough, but his best position in college may be defensive tackle with his size and quickness. Mabry isn't ready to think about a position change right now though.
"I like T.J. Duckett," said Mabry when asked who he would compare his
game to. "I like his running style. I can be physical, but I can also run
away from you in the open field."
Mabry proved that in the state quarterfinals against Marist when he ripped off a
47 yard touchdown run against the eventual state champions. Mabry has been
hearing from schools all across the country, but he does have a preseason Top 5
list right now.
"I like Miami, Florida State, Florida, Georgia, and Georgia Tech right now.
My favorite team growing up was Miami. I've been getting letters from teams like
Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, Auburn, Alabama, Texas A&M, and Arkansas
Mabry is a very good student that will have no trouble qualifying. He also
averages 10 points per game for the basketball team playing both forward
Mabry's size and quickness make him a very intriguing prospect for the Class of
2005. He will be recruited to play fullback in college, but don't be surprised
to see his quickness used on the other side of the ball before his career is
