Opening night jitters are very real in college basketball. Kentucky lost to Western Kentucky, North Carolina lost to Hampton, and Georgia only defeated pesky Furman by 13 points. But with five freshmen seeing significant minutes, the Jackets easily disposed of Florida A&M before an announced crowd of 9,088 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Clarence Moore and Fr. G B.J. Elder led the offense with 16 points each. Marvin Lewis, Tony Akins, and Halston Lane added 14 points a piece. Center Luke Schenscher had 7 points in his collegiate debut and Ed Nelson and Robert Brooks each added 6 points. The Jackets outrebounded their guests 64 to 33.
Next up for the Jackets: Pennsylvania at home Monday, November 19.
