100% not going to Florida

Florida quarterback Jonathan Garner is no longer looking at Florida. Other schools have now moved up on his list. He visited the bowl practice for one of those schools this weekend.

Jonathan Garner has been spending some time recently in Orlando. He and an old buddy of his, who now plays for Arkansas, got to check out some of Georgia Tech's bowl practice in preparation for Syracuse on Tuesday.

He's at Universal Studios today, but his mother had some interesting things to report in his absence. Mrs. Garner said, "He's definitely 100% not going to Florida. He's cancelled the trip to Florida." She went on to say that the newly hired Florida coach, Urban Meyer, called yesterday to tell them that they had received a commitment from another quarterback, Josh Portis, over the weekend. She said that Coach Meyer had called Jonathan and said that he watched the film on him and didn't feel like he was going to fit into the offense at Florida.

So, moving on to his new options, what did Jonathan think of the Georgia Tech practice? Mrs. Garner said, "They went to the Georgia Tech practice Saturday. He was real impressed. He liked the coaches and he's looking forward to the visit." She wasn't sure on the exact date in January that the GT visit was going to be, "That I don't know. I do know he's going the 7th, 8th and 9th to South Carolina." She also stated that he had a visit planned for Mississippi as well. With his recruitment opening up, other schools have also started calling, "LSU has called him this week and is interested in him and NC State called."

Jonathan's mother didn't think her son had a leader at this time or was ready to commit anytime soon. She said, "As far as I know he wants to go on all of his visits before he makes a decision." She did mention though that he wanted to stay fairly close to home. She told me about how he was going to be committed to Stanford early on but then decided it was too far away. She followed that up by saying, "Atlanta's not far. South Carolina's not far."
