Wide Receiver Has Leader

WR Greg Smith is getting closer to making a decision. He names a leader and hints that he's thinking about following advice he has been getting.

Douglass High (Ga.) wide receiver Greg Smith says he's leaning toward Georgia Tech and that he's about ready for recruiting to be over with. Smith says, "I was supposed to go to Duke on the 14th and I was supposed to go to the Naval Academy on the 21st. But I'm almost getting to the point now to where I'm ready to get it over with." When asked if he had a leader at this point, he said, "I'm leaning toward Tech."

What is it Smith likes about GT? "The coaches, it's in the city of Atlanta, where I'm from. It's just a good situation for me." Regarding his for-now scheduled visit to Duke he says, "We're debating, do I really want to go to Duke or not, because I've already been there. I just really wanted my folks to go up there."

Lately he's been getting this advice from others, "Everybody I talk to says, ‘Go to Tech, everybody's going to be trying and double-team CJ (current Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson).'"

Smith was asked how he performed in an offense this season which featured a heavy dose of the running game because of his highly touted teammate James Davis (Scout.com's #23 RB). Smith says, "I still ended up with like 47 catches for 800 yards and like 6 touchdowns." That is about 17 yards per catch, which seems to back up his claim when he says, "That's all I do is make plays."
