Monday Practice Report

Georgia Tech continued camp in the smoldering Atlanta heat. Into the second week of practice now, players are really starting to separate themselves. The freshmen who continue to impress are no longer being looked at as future stars. They are starting to push their way up the depth chart and really challenge the returning players on the team.

Here are some excerpts from today's practice report…

4. First team defense had their best day today against the run. I'd have to give them the win for perhaps the first time this camp. A couple of big holes did open up 2-3 times but for the most part they held up well. Reggie's running didn't fool Joe Anoai or Gary Guyton on one play where they both met him about 1 yard over the line of scrimmage. Phillip Wheeler would have put a hurting on Ball too later had he been going full tilt. It seems like Wheeler is just a madman waiting for the reins to come off. And I can't leave out Gerris Wilkinson because he looked good today too. So the first linebacker group is on their way. It should be a solid group, then throw in a healthy KaMichael Hall and it's looking like a strong group.

10. I know we have two experienced Tight Ends returning this season but I just don't see how we can sit Colin Peek for the entire year. He's seems too good not to use. He has super size and soft hands. He has the frame of a young Offensive Tackle but his skills are so valuable that we'll have to make him stronger but keep him agile too. Once again today he made it look easy catching a ball over the middle.
