Newest Jacket Discusses Decision

Ricardo Matthews made a commitment to Georgia Tech last night. We were happy to be the first to bring you the news, and now Matthews talks about his decision.

"I committed to Coach Buddy Geis," said Ricardo Matthews. "I had thought about taking some other visits, but I already had my mind made up. So, I thought there was really no reason to take any more visits and to go ahead and commit,"

Why Georgia Tech?

"Everyone made me feel welcome, but Georgia Tech did the best job of making me feel at home. I don't really know how to describe it. Everyone was always talking to me and giving me advice and not just talking about football. Coach Geis is good too. He's funny."

At 6-2 and 260 pounds, Matthews had over 60 tackles and four sacks for his Terry Parker team, and despite the frame of a budding defensive tackle, Matthews has his sights set on end at Tech.

"I don't know where that tackle came from," Matthews said with a laugh when he was told he was listed as a defensive tackle on "They're recruiting me at end, but I'll play wherever they need me to play."

Matthews is a wrestler as well as a football player, and wrestling is a sport that translates extremely well to the gridiron. It's nearly impossible to cut block a wrestler after he has spent hours upon hours avoiding take downs on the wrestling mat.

"You just sprawl. I got a lot of tackles that way; pop right back on your feet and you're back in the play."

Matthews is an agile big man that will be making his way from Jacksonville to Georgia Tech, and Tech is extremely happy to get him as an early Christmas present.
