Shane Bowen: "Anxious to get going again"

Shane Bowen was one of two players from the 2006 Georgia Tech class to enroll in January. Since Shane was out of football this past year, he's as ready as anyone in the class to finally get back on the field. It is unclear at this time whether his long-term future with Tech will be as a Safety or Linebacker. Initially he's going to play Safety but either way, he'll provide some needed depth to either position starting this spring.

Shane Bowen was one of two players from the 2006 Georgia Tech class to enroll in January. Since Shane was out of football this past year, he's as ready as anyone in the class to finally get back on the field. To him this probably feels more like late enrollment rather than an early one. It is unclear at this time whether his long-term future with Tech will be as a Safety or Linebacker. Initially he's going to play Safety but either way, he'll provide some needed depth to either position starting this spring. I caught up with Shane for a quick update to see how preparations are going for spring.

The first question is kind of an odd one but what is your actual height? Some places list you as 6'4" but on Signing Day the commitment board listed you as 6'1". Which is closer?

"I'm a legit 6'3" as you will be able to see when we finally run into one another at spring ball or wherever."

How are things going now that you're actually in school? And have others been showing you the ropes and telling you what it will take to do well?

"Everything's gone well; just getting into the swing of things football-wise and academically. Taking that fall off made it a tougher transition than I thought but I'm definitely starting to get the hang of it all. Things are good though; the guys have been great helping me figure things out and answering my questions."

Think you are ready mentally and physically for spring ball to start? It has to be pretty exciting now that you're this close.

"I'm finally getting in the shape I need to be in and looking forward to getting through these next 5 weeks of workouts and having spring break because the week we get back spring ball starts up and since I haven't really put on the pads since late July for an all-star game, I guess you could say I'm pretty anxious to get going again."
