Despite starting the season at 17 -1 the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets continued to struggle at the plate and in the field yesterday. The Jackets dropped their second game of the year and second in the ACC to North Carolina State.
Blake Wood lost his first game in 15 starts as a result of shoddy fielding and his inability to locate his pitches. Freshman Chris Hicks was roughed up for three runs in 2/3 of an inning. The lone bright spot on the mound for the Jackets was the pitching of Ryan Turner. He pitched the final 2 2/3 innings giving up only one hit. His outing may give him a more prominent role on the pitching staff.
The heart of the Jackets lineup continued to struggle as Wes Hodges, Jeff Kindel, Matt Wieters and Whitt Robbins were held without a hit. NC St pitching held the Jackets to just four hits. Two of those hits were by Danny Payne. He leads the team with a .405 average.
Tim Gustafson makes his first start since last year's regional. Look for Danny Hall and Bobby Moranda to make use of their bullpen in this must win game. Lee Hyde is penciled in for Sunday but don't be surprised if he is used out of the bullpen today if needed.
