The Western Carolina Catamounts 9-game winning streak came to a screeching halt on Tuesday night at the hands of the Yellow Jackets' 18-hit attack. Whit Robbins and Wes Hodges each had four RBI. Wally Crancer chipped in with three hits including a homerun.
Ryan Turner, the second of three pitchers, pitched three hitless innings to pick up the victory. Tim Ladd got the start and pitched 4 innings giving up three runs. Chris Hicks pitched the final two innings giving up two runs one of which was a homer.
The Jackets cleared their bench using 20 players. Crancer was the only Jacket to play all nine innings. Coach Danny Hall made some lineup changes in thisgame; inserting Crancer in left, moving Robbins up to the three-slot and dropping Jeff Kindel back to the five-slot.
The start of the game was delayed an hour and fifteen minutes while both teams waited on the umpires. Look for the weekend rotation to remain the same as David Duncan was seen getting in his running with the other two starting pitchers. Turner entered the game with a 2.66 ERA, the best on the team for those who had pitched 20 or more innings.
The Jackets open a three-game series on the road Friday at 7PM with Maryland. This is the first of two straight series on the road. The Jackets next home games are next Tuesday and Wednesday with Georgia Southern.
Faces in the crowd - From Tech football - Coach Buddy Geis, Tech softball player - Jessica Sallinger and the DePauw University baseball team from Greencastle, Indiana. They are in town for games with Emory and Oglethorpe.
