The Jackets baseball team snapped a three game losing streak behind the brilliant pitching of David Duncan Wednesday afternoon. Duncan had a no hitter going into the 7th inning before surrendering a a lead off single. The single along with a walk and a run scoring single ended the day for Duncan. Closer Matt Wieters entered the game only to give up a game tying single that followed a passed ball.
The Jackets retook the lead for good in the bottom of the 7th on a home run by Danny Payne. The homer was Payne's second of the two game series. Whit Robbins led the Jacket attack with three hits, while Wieters and Payne each chipped in with two a piece.
Wieters got the win to move his record to 1-1. He pitched the final 2.2 innings. John Goodman showed no ill effects yesterday from his first appearance since 2004 on Tuesday night. The start by Duncan means that either Jared Hyatt or Ryan Turner will get the start on Sunday against Virginia Tech.
The Jackets leave tomorrow following batting practice for the long bus ride to Blacksburg. The first game of the series starts Friday night at 7pm. The Saturday game will be a 2 pm and Sunday's start is 1pm.
